What makes you hold on to God when things get unpleasant/ tough?

This analogy came across my mind…

You fell into a swamp and stuck in it one day. You are struggling, trying hard to get out, but the more you struggle, the more you are sinking. You keep sinking and in no time, half if your body is swallowed by the swamp. In this urgent moment, Jesus, standing by the edge of the swamp throw a rope to you to rescue you. “Grab it quickly and hold on to the rope tight! I’ll pull you out!” Jesus urged. You immediately grabbed the rope as you saw the hope, and Jesus start to pull the rope really hard, trying hard to get you out of the swamp. So you held on the rope really tight, and with Jesus’ effort, you started to be pulled  up a bit from the mud, but you were just so stuck. It was still so hard to got up from the swamp though you were making a progress with Jesus. You started to feel tired, having to grab to rope very tightly to be pulled out, and get impatient with the slow speed. You even started to doubt sometimes- is Jesus gonna pull me up or he will get tire of pulling too? You tried to swing off this doubt as this was your only hope. Look, Jesus was still trying so hard to pull you off the swamp, you told yourselves not to doubt him. After all, Jesus was the only one at the edge of the swamp, reach out to you and trying to pull you it. This was your only chance to survive, if you loose grib, then you will sink back to the swamp and not gonna make it. It’s the only rope that you can grab. So you continue to hold on to the rope, and at the end, Jesus’ didn’t disappoint you. His persistency and faithfulness pulled you out of the swamp. You are glad that you have trusted the right person and made it!
